Dr. Yury Gogotsi is Distinguished University Professor and Charles T. and Ruth M. Bach Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University in Philadelphia, USA. He also serves as Director of the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute and as Adjunct Professor at Sumy State University. He received his MS in Metallurgy (1984) and PhD in Chemistry (1986) from Kyiv Polytechnic (Dr.h.c. in 2018), and a DSc degree in Engineering from the National Acad. Sci. of Ukraine in 1995 (Dr.h.c in 2017). His key contributions to science include development of materials for capacitive energy storage (> 16 000 citations of his paper on Materials for Electrochemical Capacitors) and discovery of a large family of materials – 2D carbides and nitrides known as MXenes. He works on 2D materials, nanostructured carbons, and other nanomaterials for energy, water and biomedical applications. He authored/co-authored more than 800 papers, which have been cited more than 200 000 times, co-authored 2 books and edited 15 books. He filed more than 180 patent applications and dozens of his patents have been licensed to industry. He is among the most cited researchers in the world among all disciplines, who has been recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher in Chemistry and Materials Science, and a Citations Laureate in Physics by Clarivate Analytics. He has received numerous awards for his research, including a Ceramic Prize from the World Academy of Ceramics, MRS Medal, Chemistry of Materials Award from ACS, S. Somiya Award from IUMRS, European Carbon Association Award, Materials Innovation Award from Materials Today, Horizon Prize from RSC, R&D 100 Awards from R&D Magazine, I.N. Frantsevich Prize from National Acad. Sci., Ukraine, and many other distinctions. He has been elected a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, World Academy of Ceramics, Royal Society of Chemistry, American Association for Advancement of Science, and other professional societies. He holds honorary doctorates from Ukrainian and French universities.
